There are various
forms of diving, for both sport, leisure and commercial reasons.
The more competitive version would be the platform and
springboard diving. For Olympic purposes, the platform would be
at a height of 10m, and springboards are generally 1 or 3m high.
Diving, basically the art of free-falling into water, requires a
demonstration of strength, flexibility, and aerobatics. Scoring
is split into three categories including the take-off, flight
through the air (considering trajectory and magnitude) and the
entry into the water. The Governing body for competitive diving
is FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation), which was
founded in London on 19.07.1908 at the end of the 1908 Summer
Olympics. Currently, we are waving the flag for British diving
with the very talented Tom Daley.
An alternative form of diving, and one which can prove to be an
addictive hobby, is scuba diving (scuba being an acronym
standing for "Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus").
This is a licensed hobby, and PADI (Professional Association of
Diving Instructors) courses are regularly held throughout the
country. There is also the British Sub Aqua Club, formed in the
UK in 1953, and is currently the largest diving club worldwide.
Diving without the apparatus for breathing include snorkelling
and free-diving where the person would just hold their breath.
This can be a very rewarding form of leisure, the sheer beauty
of the underwater world, the calm, the space. A very popular
holiday sport. |

Injury & Rehabilitation
Advice for Diving |
|

Physical
Strength, Acrobatic Flexibility and Aerobic Capacity make this
sport very demanding on the bodies of divers. Tearing of muscles
during training can be both painful and a tedious drain on
training time. When injuries do arise it is essential to find
treatment and support to allow your muscles the best conditions
to repair.
At Heroes Fitness
Stores we pride ourselves on the range of sport supports that we
keep in stock. Below we have listed a few that a diver may find
a useful aid in the recovery plan.
Note: All injuries should
always be seen by a medical practitioner. |
